Victorian Decorating For The Modern Home

The Victorian decorating style is one that combines antique accessories with modern methods and can really make your house stand out. Whether you have an old Victorian mansion or a new home, you can decorating with a Victorian style by changing small things, for instance painting and hanging vintage accessories to bring some of the Victorian age to your home.

A major component in victorian decorating is what you put on the walls. For this style the room colors make a big difference - you should contemplate putting reds and dark colors and anything with vintage appeal and depending on the particular style many colors either in your wall color or your accessories. Try using an antique style wallpaper and border sets on the walls, or if you want something different go with paint and stenciling. You don't have to get too fancy or spend a lot of money and if you are afraid of a bit of color, merely paint the walls a neutral shade and let the accents in the room do the decorating.

INTERIOR DOORS

The floor covering can make or break your decor, but if you can not buy new flooring then just use area rugs with a Victorian design. Oriental rugs are perfect for this type of decor and you can buy genuine antique rugs, or reproductions if you are on a budget.

Accessories are key to pulling your Victorian decor together. You'll be surprised at the impact a few alterations can make! Concentrate on buying old photos, artwork and mantle clocks that match your Victorian decor. Be sure to add in plenty of antiques as well as Victorian era curios. Additional touches like vintage fabrics and vases filled with flowers can add that special touch that gives your home a professional look.

You might want to consider light fixtures in terms of both style and type to go with your Victorian decorating style,. Given that you are trying to get a Victorian look, you might want to take a look at using old fashioned ceiling lights with lamps with silk fringe shades but remember to pass up anything which is primitive or country looking. Don't forget to include table lamps as well as wall sconces.

Furniture should be Victorian in style but you don't have to use genuine antiques. For the sofa especially, you should consider a reproduction. This is because vintage Victorian sofas are very uncomfortable! Wooden pieces like side tables and curio cabinets would look best if you can buy real antiques - the new stuff is just not as beautiful as the old pieces with a rich patina. Always make sure you buy pieces that are in tip top condition.

How you dress your windows are important to your victorian decorating design theme. For a fantastic design in your parlor go with working with layered drapery or velvet curtains or heavy draped curtains with different fabrics. There are a lot of window treatments that can be paired with this design theme, particularly if you match fabrics to your window treatments, but you should avoid contemporary style window coverings.

One decorating area that is frequently overlooked when decorating is the wall space. Even the ugliest walls can be made to look good with great wall decor. Try adding vintage paintings and old photos to create an interesting look to your parlor walls to really bring out the charm of your Victorian Interior Design.

Putting together a perfect Victorian look in your home can be as basic as just buying new decorative accessories or as involved as replacing everything. Either way, working on the details and making sure to coordinate your furniture and decorative accessories will help you achieve a great new Victorian decorating look that you will be proud to claim you accomplished all by yourself!

Interior Decorating With Picture Frames

There are many ways to decorate the interior of your home, none the least of which is with picture frames. Picture frames have the unique ability to personalize a house in more ways than one. You can share with friends, family and visitors your memories and cherished moments.

There are literally dozens of different picture frames to choose from including:

INTERIOR DOORS

Collage picture frames Digital picture frames Magnetic picture frames Shadow boxes Wholesale picture frames

You don't have to spend a fortune to decorate your home using picture frames. In fact cheap picture frames or discount picture frames look just as classy and elegant as expensive ones. One thing you do need to do before decorating your home however is stock up on picture framing supplies. Be sure you get any matte, mounting equipment and other items you need so you can do your decorating in one fell swoop.

Steps For Decorating Your Home

There are several steps you can follow to ensure your decorating goes well. Here are a few tips for saving time and decorating efficiently:

First inventory all the photographs and memorabilia you have. Separate groups of photos and memento's into categories. Some ideas include vacation shots, weddings, birthdays, children etc. Survey your home. Take some time out to decide what walls and areas of the home you would like to display your pictures in. Stairwells are a popular choice for displaying photographs. You can also use wall space in the living room, dining room and bedrooms. Hallways are also a great area for displaying pictures and frames, as are foyers. Don't forget, you won't have to mount all frames, like digital picture frames. These picture frames look great as stand-alones. You can decorate your office, bedroom and den with them. Assess the number of frames you need relative to the photos you have. Decide the style frames you want in each area of the house. Try to match the style of the frame to the theme of the photograph and then to the decor of the room.
Tips For Hanging Your Pictures

Before you start hanging your pictures, be sure you gather all your supplies together. You will need at the minimum your frames, pictures, hanging wire, a hammer, pencil and some wall screws. If you can, enlist the assistance of a housemate or family member to help you hang pictures. They will help you decide if your pictures are placed correctly and hung evenly.

If you don't have someone to assist you, you can use a piece of paper or cardboard cut to the exact size of the picture. Take this "pattern" and tape it to the place you want to hang the picture. That way you can move it about easily to see exactly where you want it without having to put a bunch of holes in your wall! This works particularly well if you want to group several pictures together.

Keep in mind when hanging picture frames for decorations, you want each photo to add to the room, not detract from it. You don't need to cover your walls in hundreds of pictures to make a statement. Rather select a few key pieces that will accent the room. If you have a group of pictures that are too large to display at once, you can rotate them seasonally.

Think about the room's layout. This includes other accessories in the room such as a table, TV, lamp and more. Decide where the best place to put your picture is. Then hold it up to the wall and experiment with different angles. Not all pictures need to be centered in the middle of the wall. Figure out where the picture looks best relative to the other furniture in the room. Have your companion help you decide the best spot for your picture.

Now you can hang your picture. You want to make sure your picture is even. Measure the distance of your picture from each corner to the edge of the wall. You can use a tape measure if that helps. Mark your spot with a pencil once you decide what place the picture is most even.

Most pictures hang well using ordinary picture hooks. You should have a supply of these readily available. The bottom of the picture hook should land at the spot you marked for your hole. If you need to hang heavier pictures you should use nails and not hooks. You can use two instead of one to provide added support.

The most important thing to remember when decorating is to have fun. Remember you can rotate out pictures during certain times of the month or year. Decorating with picture frames is one of the easiest ways to accent your home in a loving and personal manner.

Tips on Decorating Log Cabins

Log cabins are small houses built from logs. There is a distinction between the traditional significances of log houses and log cabins. Log cabins generally pertain to simpler and a half storey structures, often not permanent and less architecturally sophisticated and finished. They are made out of round, hard-worked logs, rather than the hewn type. In addition, they are probably the first generation of home building built quickly for front line shelters.

lowes interior doors

Log cabins are fun and exciting to decorate. You do not have to get a degree in interior design or the arts to be able to do it. All you have to do is imagine and be creative. The most common design is its natural wooden look. There are some tips that might be useful when you decide to decorate your log cabin. Choose the designs, strategies, and tips that correspond to your taste and desire. Be careful not to block a lot of wall space for it may loose the environmental feel of the place.

LOWES INTERIOR

Keep most of the floor area uncovered and leave bigger open wall spaces. Having open wall spaces will keep the logs' warm feeling whenever you put the necessary items inside. Always remember to have fun when decorating and spend all the time you need arranging furniture as well as other items necessary to complete the look you want.

The first thing you have to do is to look around the cabin and have a good feel in it. Appreciate the texture, color, and space of your log house. Picture it and make it look exactly how you want it to be. Do this while your eyes are closed. The first furniture needed in your cabin is a table. Wooden tables complement and further accentuate a rustic feel and look.

Go through furniture stores and buy the ones that will make your log cabin more appealing. If you are buying chairs and a sofa, choose a darker, more textured tone. A popular design for log cabins is the southwestern pattern. Pale prints are also a popular design. Simple elegant prints far from being flashy and big will give the cabin rooms a warmer tone. You can have great furniture discounts at Home Depot, Lowes, and Kmart. Buy from shops on sale to save some money.

Furthermore, buy inexpensive and simple blankets. You can also put artificial flowers or logs in the blankets depending on your creativity. Cabin rooms as well as the kitchen area will be livelier with this design.

A throw rug is a must when decorating the interior part of the cabin. Animal rugs are popular nowadays. Throw rugs that have southwestern patterns are also very famous. You can also use artificial plants. You can put large plants in every corner of the rooms. Wooden lamps that have solid color shades are good for end tables. Dim light always blends well with the woodsy effect. Stick with lamps rather than bright lights like overhead lighting for it will give the cabin a warmer feeling.

Solid colors and southwestern prints look good on the bedrooms. The design must also blend with the window treatments. Make sure that the colors you use are relaxing and subdued. It highlights a very relaxing ambiance befitting log cabin.

It is typically seen atop the mountains but log cabins nowadays are also built in the cities.

Interior Decorating For Men

It is difficult to really pin down what man decor is. Guys are a diverse bunch with a wide range of traits and attributes. Labeling an entire gender with a certain personality is a dangerous habit.

interior doors for sale

However there are certain things which in our society are stylistically male. Not a firm scientific decoration, these are more a philosophy, a set of intrinsic notions which give us a common artistic playground upon which to work. Some things just seem girly, and some things seem male. It is as obvious as the difference between pink and blue.

INTERIOR DOORS

Defining male decorating preferences is really a matter of understanding the psychology that we expect from this gender. Male décor is, by its very definition, not female décor, and therefore its essence is going to be comprised of the difference between the minds of the two.

One of the things society thinks of men, is that they are more functional than women. While females appreciate beauty, guys like things that work. In fact common conceptions state that men are actually annoyed by useless decorative touches.

This means that one of the key elements of guy decorating would be to choose function over form. A delicate coffee tables made from flowing strips of stainless steal will lose out to a sturdy work table made of oak.

Another manifestation of this trait is the male trend to decorate using their hobbies and interests. Sports accessories, toys, models, these are the favorite accessories of a manly room. Meanwhile flowers and incense stands, candles and lace, objects which create atmosphere and little else, those are generally considered more feminine in their nature.

Another aspect of male décor is that guys are generally larger than women. This means they need more room to be comfortable. They need to be able to stretch out, and feel like the world around them is proportionate to their size.

One of the most stereotypical pieces of guy décor is the recliner. Often this is the only furnishing which is big enough to fit a man's body comfortably. Able to lean back and stretch out, they can generally support the majority of a tall guy's size, in a comfortable and relaxing way.

Size and function trends collide in other aspects of guy decorating. Men tend to like big dressers, big beds, big shelves, and big drawers. This is both because the imposing size matches them, and because these objects tend to do their jobs better. Bigger containers hold more. Bigger beds comfort more. Bigger dressers are generally stronger and more durable.

Men also tend to like different colors than women. Guys tend to be drawn to darker and more earthen colors. Red, brown, black, and green are traditionally masculine, and in some shades have a distinctly male feel.

While these trends may hold true for some males, every guy is different. What is important when creating a space is that you take the desires and preferences of everyone that inhabits it, male and female, and find out where your tastes overlap. Compromise in decorating is the art of creating a symphony from many different visions.

Virtual Interior Decorating

Designing your humble abode can be very hard. Most of the time, you would need to hire interior decorators who present you with designs on what they could do for your homes. But these may take lots of time and money. Through the improvements in technology, you can find a quicker and easier way to design the layout of your home. Decorating your home can now be done simply with the touch of a button through virtual interior decorating.

What is virtual interior decorating?

INTERIOR DOORS

Virtual interior decorating allows people to design the layout of their own homes without spending too much money on professional decorators. In fact, you may no longer need to hire one, for you can already design your apartment or home by yourself, simply by purchasing interior decorating software. Not only does it save you money, since you will be in charge of your plans, you also do not need to hire the services of an interior decorator for this phase of work.

This software is also very helpful for professional interior decorators because their ideas will be visualized easier by their clients. Through the magic of virtual reality, you can now have a sense of what your future home will look like before the designer begins the actual construction work.

Aside from generating you room or home in a virtual environment, you can also send pictures of the room you wish to change to professional interior decorators and they will then super-impose or create digital sketches of their ideas on them. This may give a clearer picture of what you can expect from your room or house instead of relying on simple descriptions or plain sketches.

By using virtual reality as a helpful tool for interior decorating, you can now easily and conveniently design the house of your dreams at a very affordable price.

Hawaiian Decorating - Make Your Home An Island Retreat

Tropical beaches, clear blue ocean, sunny sand filled beaches, palm trees, these are all things that typically come to mind when someone says Hawaiian. If you would like to create a Hawaiian style in your home, you want to think breezy and open. This would be the typical feel to a home or room in Hawaii.

lowes interior doors

To begin with, it you're painting the walls, you will want a white or other bright and open color. The earthy tones that you might find elsewhere will not be found here. For Hawaii, we want to think of openness and white walls will help create that feel. If they are painted a color at all, make sure that color is bright without reaching into the neon categories. A soft, bright yellow or green may also create the open feel you're trying to achieve. Doorways and moldings should be a rich brown such as an oak or cherry. These will contrast nicely with the painted walls while keeping the open feeling in the room.

LOWES INTERIOR DOORS

Decorative touches should include some sort of large green plant. If you can do a palm inside this would be perfect. Another nicely large and green plant would be the elephant plant. This has large broad leaves and can grow several feet tall. This will further add to the tropical feel that you've already created through the use of paint on the walls. Other accessories may include shells that could have easily come from the beach, light, airy curtains that can sway in a breeze with an open window, and pineapple shaped glasses in the kitchen or other pineapple shaped kitchen appliances or utensils.

This style of home should be furnished with a heavy use of bamboo, wicker, and/or rattan. The use of this type of furniture will encourage the light, airy feel you're trying to achieve. This tropical atmosphere will be completed with the use of this type of furniture. The furniture can be painted white or it can be in its natural state of wood. Either way, this addition will help to complete the Hawaiian look.

Fans and in the ceiling whose blades are shaped like palms are a nice touch when creating the Hawaiian feel. You can find them in stores like Home Depot, Lowes, or any retail hardware store that carries ceiling fans. These fans can be used indoors in a kitchen or dining room as well as outside under a canopy. This type of fan would make a great finishing touch.

The Hawaiian feel is one of relaxation and enjoyment. In order to create this feel in your home short of moving to Hawaii, use the above tips. You'll feel like you're on the beaches soaking up the sun in no time.

Interior Design - Decorating Walls

It's sometimes hard to start redecorating your home, especially when you don't really need it, but you'd like a change. Interior design is a job for professionals, but with a little bit of imagination and some guidance you too could create an astonishing design. This is hard when there is no plan to follow. So, the first thing you should do is create a decorating plan, in which to include what you want to change, the available budget, tools you'll need, materials and the estimated time period.

interior doors with frosted glass

Many people believe there is not much you can do on a low budget. That's more or less true. I'd prefer saying less. There are so many resources available today, plenty waiting at a click of the mouse, that you have practically no excuse not to create astonishing interior designs. You'll find online all you need, from complex mural and decorative wall paintings to ordinary wallpapers. Here are a few wall decorating ideas.

INTERIOR DOORS

Printed Fabrics to Replace Expensive Paintings

When all you have to enhance is a plain huge white wall, you might want to choose an extra large painting, but art doesn't come in cheap. If your budget is low, investing $ 500 - $ 700 to enliven a plain room might be too much. Are there any alternatives? Well, you could either make that painting yourself - but this will still cost a lot (large canvases are expensive; acryl or oil colors as well, plus the most costly tool of all: your time) - or you could visit a few of the local textile stores to choose a nice piece of fabric that will match the colors of your furniture or the other design patterns in the room. You'll need to choose a fabric with big prints and a special pattern, something meaningful, like a flower, leaf or butterfly; something exotic (maybe a palm tree or a colored bird) or something abstract. No matter what you choose, make sure the print goes together with the other elements of the room.

Decals Make Nice Wall Ornaments

Decals are funny in children's rooms. There are plenty of decals made especially for interior design purposes, both for walls or doors and even for furniture. You could find them in many home improvement or interior decorating shops, or online, at very low prices. The decals are great for small accents or trails around windows or doors. If you ever get tired of them, peel them off carefully and they will not cause any damage to the wall.

Latex Paints to Design Your Own Wall Patterns

You could also use latex paint to design your own wall patterns. If you do the job well, no one will ever make the difference between your work and real wallpaper. But you'll have the satisfaction of something unique, something no one else in the world has, not even those who employ skilled interior designers to do the job. If you want a regular pattern, you'll need a stencil. For your pattern to be really unique you should design your own stencil. It's fun and easy. Browse the web to find stencil tutorials for interior decorations that will guide you through the whole process step by step. Yes, this technique requires a lot of your time, but the results are worth the price.

Office Interior Decorating

Like our home, our office or workplace is an important part of our life. There can be little denial of the fact that we spend a major portion of our lifetime in the office.

solid wood interior doors

Based on this observation, you will be able to contemplate how to improve the facilities and design of the office. The concept of the home office is gaining popularity, with more and more people choosing to work from home.

INTERIOR DOORS

If your office is a home-based one, then you need to select the suitable area and plan the interior decorating accordingly. The main criterion for selecting a suitable place for your office is silence. The area should not be disturbed by any other event in the house. Next, choose the suitable interior-decorating scheme.

Whatever interior decorating scheme you choose, you need to allocate enough room for movement and accommodation of all the necessary equipment and furniture. For example, your workstation should not be too crowded or muddled up. You can use smaller objects instead of large ones. For example, you can use old trays as stacks for piling stationery and other rough documents. The chairs and computer tables should be soft but sturdy, with as many compartments as possible. This will save you the much-needed space.

You need to have separate plugs and boards so that the wires and other cords are not messed up. After all, you cannot afford to waste your precious time, struggling with those jumbled knots everyday! You have got other jobs to do.

Talking of a general or commercial office, some guiding factors for interior decorating are freedom of movement, appearance, maximum space utilization, and so on.

There should be a separate workstation for each employee, where he or she can work with ease and comfort. Also, the lighting and air-conditioning facilities should be correctly fitted to cover all sides evenly. There should be enough air circulation through windows, which of course, should be beautifully draped with curtains or blinds. Only if the surroundings are comfortable will a person's mind think freely and creatively.

For an office, starting from the entry point to the cafeteria lounge, interior-decorating ideas must be chosen carefully. Safety is also important in big offices, since a large number of employees work there. So, measures like emergency exits, automatic water sprays in case of fire accidents; fire extinguishers and alarms should be adopted in the designing stage of the building itself.

You can decorate the reception or guest room with beautiful bouquets, which will be refreshing to look at, and spread their freshness all around.

In big factories, interior-decorating ideas can be followed to reduce manual labor. You can opt for low-cost furnishings and furniture.

While framing the structure or design of your office, you can be immensely rewarded in terms of satisfaction and full value for your money, if you seek a professional's help. He will be able to suggest what you need to include and what to avoid.

Decorating With Stiffel Lamps and Lampshades

The Stiffel Lamps and Lampshade In Decorating

lowes interior shutters

The Stiffel lamps and lampshades are an inherent part of most decorators and designers. Manufactured by the Stiffel company, founded by Ted Stiffel in Chicago in Chicago in around 1932. The Stiffel Company has long based its business on the talents of its great designers and specialized in the old world antique style and charm. With an excellence of design and high product standards, The Stiffel Company is known and recognized as a leader in the arena of innovative lamp designs and lighting.

LOWES INTERIOR

I was first introduced to the Stiffel lamps and lampshades when we were furnishing a new home during one of my many career moves. Prior to this time, my lamp experience had been the type of lamp from a K-Mart or if you were really splurging, a furniture store. My wife picked out lamps that I regarded as very expensive. They were also the heaviest lamps I had ever come across. Her reply and justification.."they're Stiffel lamps."

If you are preparing to change the appearance or decor of a room in your room, you should keep in mind the lighting. Changing the lighting in any room can make a dramatic difference in any room. The ambiance can be easily changed by softening the light. This can be accomplished by using one of the "soft white bulbs, such as those by GE. Another way to accomplish this is by changing a lampshade. Most bedrooms have a lamp on each side of the bed. They should be identical lamps to provide a uniformity as well as continuity.

You can use the internet to research the many types of lamps that are available. Sources might include tips by interior designers or decorators. Lamp manufacturers also provide information on their lamps. If you utilize the search capabilities of one of the internet browsers, such as Google or Yahoo, you can immediately have at your finger tips all the information you could ever need. I would suggest that you consider the theme you have in mind for your room whether it be colonial, western, country or antique. Search on each of those terms and decide the path you wish to pursue.

You would need to consider the type of base. Are you interested in metal, or ceramic? Do you want pewter or brass or maybe bronze? All of these have their place. Again, research can help you to an answer. If your interest is in antique, consider visiting an antique mall where many different types of lamps would abound, including those made by Stiffel. There are quite a few such establishments in and around Houston where I live.

Another source might be garage or estate sales. During your search, don't be thrown off too much by the condition of the lamp or lampshade. One caution would be to carefully inspect the wiring and socket. I would even suggest replacing both. A kit can be purchased at a low price from one of your Home Depot or Lowes stores. A lampshade can easily be made like new via recovering the material in the shade. There are many "how-to" videos on YouTube that show how easily this can be accomplished.

As with anything of great popularity, the Stiffel Lamps and lampshades are frequently imitated and passed on as authentic "Stiffel". If I were to suggest ways of determining whether a lamp or lampshade is authentic, I would be remiss since there is no surefire method of doing this to my knowledge. I would look at the quality of material and workmanship. Pick it up, turn it over, and examine it closely. Stiffel lamps are quite heavy and very well made. No one bests Stiffel when it comes to their well made lamps. Ours are close to 40 years old and still have a distinguishing quality that you would be hard put to match or exceed. If you are in a store, look at the dealer's reputation. If possible, talk to satisfied customers of the dealer. When it comes down to it, if you cannot definitively identify your choice of lamp via normal provenance as authentic and it satisfies your needs and planned decor, then go for it. The main consideration of any purchase should be, whether it fulfills the need you have in mind. If the lamp you have in front of you is one you would be proud to have in your home and to display for friends and visitors, that is all that matters.

My name is Rick I was introduced to the Stiffel Lamps after we had purchased a new home in Humble, TX. For me, a lamp was something that provided light to read by. For my wife, it was the type of item to be collected and passed on through our family. I have to admit, they were beautiful.

Usher in Spring With Bathroom Interior Decorating - Glass Shower Door Renovation Ideas

If you are looking for ways to improve your bathroom without the hassle of a complete remodeling job, think about decorating with mirrors and renovating with glass shower enclosures.

interior doors at home depot

Mirrors easily can create a new look on a small budget. Create an illusion of more space in the bathroom by adding a mirror that covers the wall from one end to the other. Make a smaller space larger and reflect natural light for a brighter, livelier feeling.

INTERIOR DOORS

Create a more relaxing bath atmosphere by placing mirrors under candles to catch the candlelight flickers. Use an old picture frame to border a mirror; easily attach the frame to the mirror with liquid glue. Decorate an old mirror with flowers, garland or decals.

If you have a higher budget, but you don't want to break the bank, you can turn the entire bathroom into a new luxurious spa. There are plenty of design and decorating options available that can make your bathroom more enjoyable and valuable.

Invest in a new shower enclosure or invest in a steam shower. Remodeling your existing shower into a steam shower is difficult as a do-it-yourself project, but fairly simple for glass professionals to install in a day. Steam showers are like having a spa in your home, as you can relax and escape from the outside world without worrying about the expense of a large whirlpool tub.

Another simple idea that can make a big difference in bathroom atmosphere is to add new lighting. Dimming lights are best, because depending on the mood you're in you can adjust the settings to make the room brighter or dim them for a more relaxing, intimate feeling.

Don't forget the windows, either. Decorative glass or glass etching can add simple elegance to any window. New window treatments can dress up the bathroom or make it more casual. Window treatments that match bathroom accessories can change your bathroom from feeling dull to classy in an instant. Use two different towel colors change the mood of your room anytime. Speaking of colors, painting the walls a new color or adding a colorful, patterned wall paper can make your bathroom more unique to your taste.

If these ideas still aren't enough, you can add an entire new bathroom to your home by renovating a walk-in closet or reducing space in a bedroom. According to the U.S. Remodeling Sentiment Report, adding a new bathroom was the most popular home remodeling project last year. The report predicts there will be a 13 percent increase in homeowners wanting to remodel this year.

However, if you don't want to take out a small loan to add a bathroom, transforming an existing bathroom is the way to go. Plus you don't have to hire a construction general contractor, you can work with an interior decorator and a glass service specialist.

"We work with interior decorators, such as Decorating Den Interiors, to install standard mirrors and glass tub or shower enclosures," said Matt Nicklaus, owner of Glass Doctor of the Inland Empire, based in Hesperia, Calif. "It's a great way to create a unique atmosphere for your bathroom and maximize your budget, because we do the work ourselves, we don't subcontract."

By working closely together, the Glass Doctor and Decorating Den Interiors (visit http://www.decoratingden.com) teams can help remodeling projects go smoothly and exceed expectations. Shower enclosures or windows from Glass Doctor can increase your home's value while remodeling the bathroom, or you can simply use mirrors, decorations and other tips from Decorating Den Interiors to brighten up the small space after a long winter.

Modern Interior Decorating

Do you like redecorating your room so it looks inviting as well as relaxing? Do you want to make things more accessible and your room layout more functional? If so, you probably love interior decorating.

interior doors

Interior decorating encompasses a wide area of interests: the paint on the walls and on the other surfaces of your room, wallpaper, carpet, tiles, light fixtures, furniture, and even paintings and sculptures.

INTERIOR DOORS

It is not easy to define exactly what modern interior decorating is since it can actually take on many forms. It seems like there are new design themes and styles coming out every day. In fact, the sky's the limit when it comes to modern-day decorating. Identical designs are no longer the norm. Nowadays, your personality is reflected in your room's interiors.

To create a new look and feel to your room, you may want to try this more up-to-date form of interior decorating. Although there are different classifications to modern design, they can be used as a guide to how you can go about redecorating your place.

You can choose to go with an eclectic style of designing. This is a more common style of modern decoration. As its name implies, eclectic decorating makes use of a combination of different styles to give rise to a completely unique look. Usually, interior decorators just incorporate designs that appeal to them personally, positioning furniture and décor to their liking. You could do the same for your room.

Another decorating style is art deco. Although art deco is classified under modern designs, this style was actually inspired by the 1920s and 1930s. In this style, a lots of lines are used in angular, but elegant, ways. Colors are bright and vibrant.

You may want to go whimsical if you like bright pastel colors. As suggested by the name, this style has no set pattern. A whimsical design applied to a room often gives it a standout and fanciful look and feel.

Tuscan Style Decorating For The Kitchen

A Tuscan decorating theme can put some old world charm into your kitchen and make it a warm homey room to gather in. The Tuscan style incorporates warm earth tones along with natural materials and architectural accents to create a time worn look. Although the look is of a centuries old kitchen you can achieve it without having to buy priceless antiques.

The colors mimic those of the Tuscan landscape - rich golds, earthtones and even tones from the sea mingle together for this look of old Italy. Buy some majolica pottery (either new or old) and use those colors to influence your wall and floor choices. Using natural materials like stone, slate, granite or terra cotta for your flooring and countertops will help complete the look. Try some faux painting on your walls to give it the look of antique plaster.

Lighting

Think old world in your lighting and stay away from new or modern styles. Some nice antique looking wrought iron lights will be right in style. It's OK to also have recessed lighting for your task lights, but choose your pendant lights or chandeliers carefully. Stay away from anything too shiny and stick with muted metals.

Accessories

You can buy accessories like those you might find in a Tuscan kitchen brand new today, or you can scour the antique shops to get real antiques. Look for old pottery bowls and pitchers as well as painted or antiqued wooden bowls. Majolica makes a nice addition to a Tuscan style kitchen and you can buy whole sets of this pottery new today and use it for everyday use. Use lots of decorative jars of oils with peppers and ropes of garlic, peppers and grape vines. Antique look signs with a wine motif can add to the wall decor as can wallpaper murals in the form of Italian frescos and niches. Soften it up with lots of greenery.

Furniture

You want your furniture to have an old world look. Chunky wood tables with chippy or distressed paint go nice. A distressed wooden cupboard (perhaps with chicken wire doors) can give you some extra storage and add to the look if you have the space. Display your majolica or old world pottery behind the chicken wire to authenticate the look.

Decorating a Tuscan kitchen can be a lot of fun. You can get the look with brand new accessories, or if you enjoy collecting antiques, you can scour the flea markets and antique malls for those perfect pieces. Either way, you will be creating a kitchen with charm and character.
