A California based company by the name of 'Jatech' has made getting out of cars a much more convenient process. Disappearing Car Doors have become a reality in the auto industry. Jatech calls these additions, " retractable car doors". The technology is certainly a twenty-first century design, where the door actually disappears into a pocket along the frame of the car. It's all done remotely and there are no hinges.

Safety is always a concern when new technology is introduced, so Jatech has done extensive research to meet or exceed the current safety standards. The modular form of the door structure reunites with the body of the car, so when the door is closed it offers greater resistance to crash impact. There is also an escape feature on the disappearing car door. The door is equipped with an impact sensor that will allow the door to be pushed outwards, which means accident responders can get to the passengers quicker when there is a major incident. There is also a manual override that can be operated inside or outside the car to gain access, or to get out of the car. It can also be opened underwater.

Jatech explains some of the advantages of the disappearing car doors: They improve the strength and stiffness of the total car structure and they can be put on any traditional or modern vehicle. The doors are opened and closed from the driver's seat using a window lift type button; the doors don't have to be completely vertical and the side mirror stays in place when the door is open.
